About Me

If you found me searching for the lyrics to the children's song, you can find them here.
I am a researcher in bionanotechnology currently living and working in Tokyo. I moved out here nearly three years ago, against my better judgement but in search of adventure. It has certainly been an adventure and not one I would have missed for the world.
I am trying to retrain as a designer and you may see the odd example of my work appear here as I progress.
I also indulge in opinionated rambling.

Housing
Not much to report, other than I have hopefully found an apartment, and at 10% less than they were asking for it too. Should have all the paperwork sorted by Weds and move in two or three weeks time. It’s … Continue reading

Giving up western bad habits
One of the things I’m struggling the most with at the moment is cooking. This is because I don’t recognise most of the ingredients in the supermarket and then, when I get them home, I don’t know what to do … Continue reading

It got better :)

A singularly frustrating Saturday
Gah! Having turned down a credit card when I opened my bank account I must now go back and get one because I cannot have a mobile phone without it. I suspect this is the sort of rookie error seasoned … Continue reading

Japanese bureaucracy pt II
You may remember some time ago, I suggested that bureaucracy was something the Japanese excelled at and I felt I would have to get used to it? I was right. On the whole though, it does seem to work. Let … Continue reading
