About Me

If you found me searching for the lyrics to the children's song, you can find them here.
I am a researcher in bionanotechnology currently living and working in Tokyo. I moved out here nearly three years ago, against my better judgement but in search of adventure. It has certainly been an adventure and not one I would have missed for the world.
I am trying to retrain as a designer and you may see the odd example of my work appear here as I progress.
I also indulge in opinionated rambling.

This is what Twitter is good for and why Janet Street-Porter is dead wrong. It has and will continue to change the world when it needs to, it just doesn’t need to every day. I first heard the news about … Continue reading

Am I the only one who thinks it’s unfair that the new rules are being applied retrospectively? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/8303312.stm On the other hand, this has made me very VERY angry indeed: http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/oct/12/guardian-gagged-from-reporting-parliament The question is, what can we do about it? … Continue reading

It’s going to be a bitty entry today, I was going to talk about Harry Kroto yesterday, but I got side-tracked by Barack Obama, so I’ll get onto that in a moment. Yesterdays post was lots of fun :D, I … Continue reading
Obama’s Nobel Prize
Wow. That’s a bit of a shocker isn’t it? My first thought was, I suspect, the same as everyone else’s and amounted to “it’s too soon”, but then I had a second thought, and a third, and I read the … Continue reading

Note to self…
Flights that arrive into Tokyo after 8pm are a BAD idea. I caught the last train out of Narita Airport by the skin of my teeth, trekked (in a typhoon*) as far across the city as I could get before … Continue reading

And one from Prisoner Ben…
This is my new most favourite blog, there hasn’t been a bad post yet. http://prisonerben.blogspot.com/2009/10/sentencing-disaster.html For those of you with an allergy to clicking links, he says here that prisoners who have reached the end of their sentences aren’t being … Continue reading

A nugget from Bret Simmons
I am having a lovely time on holiday at home, but as I’m mostly just travelling round the country seeing friends and having them travel around the country to see me, there isn’t much to post about. While we’re waiting … Continue reading
