Should we censor the BNP?

Their opinions and actions are vile and I don’t want to see them given any more of a voice than they have already. On the other hand, by denying them their right to free speech (and their right to fair representation by the BBC as they have an MEP), do we risk elevating them to martyrs in their followers minds? Then, by ignoring them do we keep from reinforcing any of their nasty behaviour, or do we risk them getting a toe hold by not bringing their disgusting policies out into the daylight?

I don’t have an answer.

We can’t afford to continue to believe they aren’t a threat though.

About Nell

I am a researcher in bionanotechnology currently living and working in Tokyo. I moved out here nearly three years ago, against my better judgement but in search of adventure. It has certainly been an adventure and not one I would have missed for the world. I am trying to retrain as a designer and you may see the odd example of my work appear here as I progress. I also indulge in opinionated rambling.
