There’s only just under 2 weeks of the first semester of my course left now so I’ve taken the week of work and am busting an art gut for the next few days. Here’s some of my recent bits and bobs.
This was an experiment into Celtic knotwork, it is the black guide that I traced over to create the final image. I’m putting it here because in some ways I think it works better than the final version.
This is the final one, it was just a sketchbook exploration, so I didn’t worry too much about the lines from the felt tip background:
Some flowers. The leaves spoil this a bit, I made the classic mistake of making them all face up and drew them the size required to fit the gaps, as a result the image look a bit flat. It’s particularly annoying because I was aware of both of those traps as I was drawing it and was trying really hard not to fall into them:
Saxophone guy. The sax is at the wrong angle which left the mouth a bit off, there lots of other bits that are dodgy, not least those horrible sausage fingers and my tutor suggested the composition could be improved by leaving more space on the right. All the same, this is my first A1 portrait so I’m tolerably pleased.
Thanks to everyone for all the compliments and criticism. I really appreciate the criticism as it’s the only way I’ll learn. I don’t believe any of the compliments, but it is encouraging to hear, so thanks
