In the comments to my previous post on the Superfreakonomics witch hunt, I suggested that Joe Romm was misrepresenting things on a level far beyond the people he was accusing of doing the same. Here is a quote from Caldeira following seeing how Romm mangled his words:
“I believe the authors to have worked in good faith. They draw different conclusions than I draw from the same facts, but as authors of the book, that is their prerogative.”
He goes on to say:
“I was drawn in by Romm and Al Gore’s assistant into critiquing other parts of the chapter. Rather than acting deliberately, I panicked and commented on things that I now wish I would have been silent on. It was obviously a mistake to let myself get drawn into this, and I learned a quick and hard lesson in public relations.”
Note how Al Gore was involved. Still don’t think it was a witch hunt?
About Nell
I am a researcher in bionanotechnology currently living and working in Tokyo. I moved out here nearly three years ago, against my better judgement but in search of adventure. It has certainly been an adventure and not one I would have missed for the world.
I am trying to retrain as a designer and you may see the odd example of my work appear here as I progress.
I also indulge in opinionated rambling.
