I have no doubts whatsoever…

…that the intelligent and considerate people who read this blog believe in global warming, believe it is caused by us and believe it is something we need to stop, or the consequences will be serious. However, just in case a couple of you have heard that climate denialist canard that “in the 70s, scientists predicted an imminent ice age” and it made you wonder, here is the truth:

To reiterate the most salient points; “scientists” didn’t predict an imminent ice age, a minority of scientists raised it as a possibility and the press grabbed it a blew it out of proportion (nice to know some things never change). It wasn’t an all that out there idea, after all, particulate pollution could shield us and lower temperatures, it just happens to be wrong. Sorry.

About Nell

I am a researcher in bionanotechnology currently living and working in Tokyo. I moved out here nearly three years ago, against my better judgement but in search of adventure. It has certainly been an adventure and not one I would have missed for the world. I am trying to retrain as a designer and you may see the odd example of my work appear here as I progress. I also indulge in opinionated rambling.
