About Me

If you found me searching for the lyrics to the children's song, you can find them here.
I am a researcher in bionanotechnology currently living and working in Tokyo. I moved out here nearly three years ago, against my better judgement but in search of adventure. It has certainly been an adventure and not one I would have missed for the world.
I am trying to retrain as a designer and you may see the odd example of my work appear here as I progress.
I also indulge in opinionated rambling.

Inflatable bin liner art
Joshua Allen Harris makes* sculptures out of bin liners. He arranges them to look like litter discarded on the street but they are attached to subway air vents in the pavement and, when a train goes through underneath, the air pressure … Continue reading

Standing by my earlier comments
A while ago I wrote a long and angry post about how the (now previous) Government had scrapped funding for equal or lesser qualifications leaving me with an almost impossibly large bill for the course I would like to do. … Continue reading
Odd. That doesn’t look like South Korea…
I know a little while ago I mentioned I was going on holiday to South Korea, but somehow my long weekend in Soul turned into 10 days in Thailand. At first I tried to capture my experiences as a video … Continue reading

Tread Softly
Had I the heavens’ embroidered cloths, Enwrought with golden and silver light, The blue and the dim and the dark cloths Of night and light and the half-light, I would spread the cloths under your feet: But I, being poor, … Continue reading
FBB
My word: it’s 13 months since the last Fat Bird Benchmark! Shocking. I went out using the couch to 10k iPhone app and, when I got back, was amazed to discover I’d run 4 miles. Ok, I didn’t actually run … Continue reading
The end of summer
The sun is warm, but no longer scorching, and it is finally cool in the shade. There is a gentle breeze that flutters the leaves; rosy with the first flush of their autumn wardrobe. It has rained all weekend and washed the … Continue reading

Kouzushima
Kouzushima is one of the Izu Islands – an archipelago of volcanic islands South East of Tokyo Bay and part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu national park. Last month I spent 10 hours getting there on an overnight ferry and pitched a … Continue reading
