About Me

If you found me searching for the lyrics to the children's song, you can find them here.
I am a researcher in bionanotechnology currently living and working in Tokyo. I moved out here nearly three years ago, against my better judgement but in search of adventure. It has certainly been an adventure and not one I would have missed for the world.
I am trying to retrain as a designer and you may see the odd example of my work appear here as I progress.
I also indulge in opinionated rambling.

#25 To be successful, first do the things you love.
I just watched this TED talk (at the bottom) and was almost moved to tears. If I had been in the audience, I too would have been on my feet at the end. My bearhunt is moving on. The bit … Continue reading

#24 That’s trilling!
I am learning Spanish, which requires me to practice trilling (rolling my Rs). I started learning French when I was very young and, while I never progressed to any sort of useful level, it did teach me the French trill, … Continue reading

#23 safety nets are still nets
A few weeks ago I quit my job: I woke up one morning and realised I didn’t need it and it wasn’t making me happy. It was a bit more complicated than that; I’ve got a place on my dream … Continue reading

#16 Not every lesson has to be profound…
The band Orbital took their name from the newly built M25 that enabled party goers to easily get to impromptu raves around the home counties in the early to mid ’80s.

#8 If you can’t be kind, at least be nice.
Wherever I have travelled and however many people I meet, the ones that really make my heart sing are the ones who are kind. There is something about kind people that makes them happier and that, in turn, makes the people … Continue reading

#6 Sometimes you have to go back to appreciate how far forwards you have come
I have just bought a new phone handset. It has a funky new text input system called Swype that lets you input words by drawing a path over the keyboard. It is clever and fast and I like it a … Continue reading

The Secular Solstice Superlative is here!
Those of you that were here last year may remember Winterval Wonderful. Well, it worked so well that I’ve decided to do it again this year. If you have been paying attention, you may have noticed the new page that … Continue reading
