About Me

If you found me searching for the lyrics to the children's song, you can find them here.
I am a researcher in bionanotechnology currently living and working in Tokyo. I moved out here nearly three years ago, against my better judgement but in search of adventure. It has certainly been an adventure and not one I would have missed for the world.
I am trying to retrain as a designer and you may see the odd example of my work appear here as I progress.
I also indulge in opinionated rambling.

#13 Society is stronger than we think
When something like the earthquake (it’s already being called “the great earthquake”) of March 11th happens, politicians and the press are always quick to tell us people are panicking, we must be afraid of looters and that they can’t tell … Continue reading

#9 Even restaurants should be judged by more than their appearances
Today I visited Ganko Ramen, a shop just 10 mins walk from my new apt[1]. It’s an ugly little shop, and by little, I mean tiny. It’s the ground floor of a wedge shaped building “so sharp you could cut … Continue reading

Odd. That doesn’t look like South Korea…
I know a little while ago I mentioned I was going on holiday to South Korea, but somehow my long weekend in Soul turned into 10 days in Thailand. At first I tried to capture my experiences as a video … Continue reading

Kouzushima
Kouzushima is one of the Izu Islands – an archipelago of volcanic islands South East of Tokyo Bay and part of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu national park. Last month I spent 10 hours getting there on an overnight ferry and pitched a … Continue reading

Have a break, have a matcha-flavoured kitkat
I’m taking a bit of a break from blogging so I can (amongst other things) go and have a holiday in Seoul. Normal service will be resumed at the end on the month, in the meantime, please enjoy this video. … Continue reading
